£ 36 Million Of Turkey Noted For Deaths Due To Salmonella

Last week it was announced that one of the largest producers in the country were food reminiscent of approximately 36 million pounds of ground turkey. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the recall last Wednesday.

The recall follows an outbreak of salmonellosis that has sickened many people in at least 26 states and has recently been linked to the death of a man in California. Salmonellosis is caused by Salmonella, a Gram-negative bacteria that is found throughout the world in the cold-blooded, hot-including humans. Infections caused by bacteria can be caused by eating food contaminated by the transmission from animals to humans.

People exposed to Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain within 12-72 hours of exposure. The infection usually lasts 4-7 days. Some infected people require hospitalization and it is possible that the infection may spread from the gut into the blood and then. When this happens the patient's condition may deteriorate to the death if not treated properly. People whose immune system is weakened, the very young and the elderly are most at risk.
